England vs Wales: A look at the numbers
- 1317
Match two in Round 2 picked up exactly where the first match between Scotland and France left off: A close and intense encounte. The fixture saw The Roses edgeout the Welsh with a 16-14 victory at Twickenham to earn bragging rights in the rivalry.
However watching the game can only tell us so much, as we take a look at the numbers.
The man of the match went to England's eighth-man Ben Earl who scored a try for the home side. His attacking prowess was on full display, beating 4 defenders off nine carries (the most in the match) that saw him cover 41 metres of ground far more than any of his teamates. Earl's defense was not to be questioned either, completing 8 tackles ending a good day at the office as the man of the match.
Leading the way in clean breaks, was Earls teammate and England left-wing, Elliot Daly as he broke past the Welsh defense twice.
Wales centred Nick Tompkins led the pack in offloads, completing 2. Fellow teammate and openside flanker Tommy Reffell worked harder than anyone else on the pitch on the defensive end, completing 14 tackles on the night.
Reffell also also kept busy at the breakdown, forcing two turnovers, the same as his English counterpart Sam Underhill.
