Premiership club eye Wallabies coach for Director of Rugby role

The Leicester Tigers have plunged into a battle of survival in the Premiership under Geordan Murphy who replaced Matt O'Connor as the side's head coach early in the season.

However, the Tigers are considering an audacious bid to recruit Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika as director of rugby after the World Cup according to a report by  Chris Foy at the Daily Mail.

According to the report, the club's hierarchy has made enquiries to bring Chieka to the club but the Wallaby coach won't come cheap with the hierarchy weighing up the cost, which one source indicated would be 'prohibitive'.

The 52-year-old lead the Wallabies to the 2015 World Cup final just one year after taking the job but Australia has struggled in recent times and is expected to leave the role after the World Cup.

Chieka has been successful in Europe leading Leinster to a Celtic and European title and guided Stade Francais to a 2011 European Challenge Cup final.

The Wallabies endured some tough times under Cheika recently winning just 40% of their games since 2016 while slumming to their worst world ranking under Cheika. 2018 also saw the Wallabies lose more test than any other calendar year.
