Double injury blow for Ireland ahead of Wales clash
- 2061
Ireland’s forward duo of Caelan Doris and Quin Roux will not feature in Ireland’s opening Six Nations clash against Wales on Sunday.
Instead, they have been sent back to their clubs for medical assessment after Doris exhibited concussion symptoms while Roux has apparently picked up a neck injury.
Munster loose-forward Gavin Coombes has been called up to replace Doris while Leinster second-row Ryan Baird will fill the void left by Roux.
The IRFU issued the following statement:
"He [Doris] has returned to Leinster to allow his symptoms to be appropriately assessed and investigated.
"Quinn has a neck complaint that has not settled so he has returned to Connacht."
Meanwhile, Ireland stalwarts Johnny Sexton and Iain Henderson are coming through training in good shape after hamstring and knee injuries respectively and will be expected to feature in their Six Nations opener.
