Speculation is mounting around the future of a number of Ireland stars with CJ Stander the latest to be linked with a move abroad as the IRFU come to the end of their negotiating period.
The former South African u20 captain made the move to Munster in 2012 and has since become a regular for the Province reaching the 150 cap milestone in recent weeks. Having become eligible for Ireland, he made his test debut during 2016 and has since become a regular member of the Ireland squad and tour with the British and Irish Lions in 2017.
With his current contract expiring Stander is reportedly on the radar of TOP14 club Bordeaux. Speaking on The42.ie podcast, former Dragons head coach Bernard Jackman revealed the information relayed to him by an agent.
“I spoke to a French agent last week and he was of the opinion that CJ was going to Bordeaux — or that Bordeaux were making a serious play for him.”
“I don’t know any more than that but he’s a top player and Bordeaux are a great club. They’re very ambitious and I think they’re about to lose two eights from their current roster.
“I don’t know if he’s been talking to them or anything like that but, certainly, Bordeaux have a huge interest in CJ,” Jackman said.

Former Wallaby Scott Higginbotham is currently on the payroll of Bordeaux, however, his contract expires at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to fellow TOP14 club Pau by Midi Olympique. According to the same publication, Bordeaux are also keen on the services of former France International Louis Picamoles whose contract at Montpellier comes to an end this season.
Georgian International Beka Gorgadze is also rumoured to be on his way out of Bordeaux with Samoan International Afaesetiti Amosa the only other recognised senior no.8 on the club books while Alexandre Roumat able of covering the role as he has done this season.
Stander was rumoured with a move to France the last time his contract was expiring, in 2017, but remained at Munster.
