Can the Ospreys repeat their 2012 success
- 1296
As we make our way into the final weekend of games in the Pro12, the Ospreys go into the weeked top of the pile as they look to secure the Pro12 title that they won in 2012. After missing out on the semi-finals last season the Ospreys have already secured a semi-final place and a win away to Connacht on Saturday would secure them a home semi-final just like they did in 2012. After finishing the season in second the Ospreys played Munster in the semis at the Liberty Stadium, in what was expected to be a close contest. However that was not the case as the Welsh side hammered Munster 45-10 scoring five tries in the process.
They would go onto to play another Irish side in the final as they made their way to the RDS to take on a Leinster side that had won the Heineken Cup a week earlier. Not many people gave them any hope of causing an upset with Leinster looking to secure a double. In what was one of the most entertaining Pro12 finals in recent years, Leinster dominated for large parts of the game with the Ospreys keeping in touch through the boot of Dan Biggar. With Leinster leading for most of the game, the game looked as good as over as Joe Schmidt's side led 30-21 with 8 minutes to go. The yellow card to Nathan White did not help Leinster's cause and a Dan Biggar penalty made it 30-24 with three minutes remaining. As Leinster looked to hang on to victory, Ospreys found a way through their defence and how fitting it was for Shane Williams to get the try with the the Welshmen making his final appearance for the Ospreys before retiring. With the score 30-29, Dan Biggar had the opportunity to give the Ospreys the lead for the first time in the game with the conversion and he kept his cool to give Ospreys a 31-30 lead with two minutes remaining. Leinster pushed for a late score but it never came and Ospreys hung on for a famous win.
