Bristol hammer Gloucester in bizarre West Country derby
- 2214
A bizarre game at Ashton Gate as some 30000 fans were treated to some wonderful running rugby from Pat Lam's Bristol Bears. Eight Bristol Bears tries were disallowed in the encounter for multiple infringements in the build-up, mainly knock-ons with the odd forward pass, while Gloucester had a few of their own chalked off. Charles Piutau also failed to dot down a try in the first half as Kyle Moyle knocked the ball from his grasp with the fullback over the line. In the end, Bristol still managed to claim a comfortable 39-7 bonus point victory thanks to tries from Max Malins, Charles Piutau Ben Earl, Nathan Hughes and Semi Radradra. Gloucester fought right to the end but were ultimately outclassed with a red card in the 15th minute to Matias Alemanno for a dunk tackle on Steven Luatua not aiding them in the slightest. Santiago Carreras scored the only try for the Cherry & Whites as they trailed 13-7 at the break but it was one-way traffic in the second half with Bristol scoring four unanswered tries to extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points.
