With Bath taking on Saracens in this weekends Premiership final at Twickenham we look back on the last 5 meeting between these sides.
The most recent game took place at Allianz Park in February, in what was a high-scoring affair in North London. With the game taking place during the 6 Nations championship, both sides were without important personnel but that didn’t matter as the fans were treated to a game full of tries. It was Saracens who got off to the better start thanks to a try from American International Chris Wyles with Goode and Hodgson adding penalties to give Saracens an 11-3 half-time lead. It was Saracens again who started the second-half the better and a try from Hooker Jamie George gave them a 21-3 lead. Credit to Bath who never gave up and they found a way back into the game thanks to a try from Rokoduguni. However Bath were always playing catch up and despite scoring two tries in two minutes from Woodburn and another from Rokoduguni to make it a 7 point game, Alex Goode converted a late penalty to seal a 34-24 win for Saracens.
The most recent game at the Rec was in October where Bath were deserving winners. In what was a closely fought first half, Bath went into the break leading 10-3 with Jonathan Joseph’s try the difference between the two sides as he crossed the whitewash after Saracens failed to deal with an up and under with Joseph capitalizing. With Chris Ashton in the bin for a deliberate knock-on Bath took advantage and scored the second try of the game with Joseph this time the provider with his centre partner Kyle Eastmond going over in the corner. With Ford missing 14 points from the tee Saracens found a way back into the game with a try from Chris Wyles and now Bath only led 18-11. However Saracens were unable to get another score in the game and Ford sealed the win with a penalty to make it 21-11 to Bath.
Saracens travelled to the Rec in March 2014 looking to continue their fine form against Bath having won the previous 7 fixtures between the two sides. Saracens were looking good to make it 8 wins in a row after an impressive first half as they went into the break with a 17-3 lead thanks to the boot of Alex Goode and tries from David Strettle and Chris Wyles. Bath were looking for a quick response but were made wait until the 65th minute as they were awarded a penalty try and a Ford conversion made it 20-10. Bath dominated the final 10 minutes but it was Saracens who sealed the win thanks to another Alex Goode penalty with Sarries leaving the Rec with a 23-10 win.
In what was only round 3 of the 2013/14 season, Bath travelled to the Rec with both sides looking to make it 3 wins from three after winning their opening two matches. After securing maximum points in their opening two games. Saracens already secured a four-try bonus point in the opening 40 minutes as they blew Bath away thanks to tries from Alex Goode, Matt Stevens and a double from David Strettle. The second half was all about pride for Bath and they made the scoreline a little bit more respectable thanks to tries from Rokoduguni and Attwood as Saracens secured a 31-17 win.
Saracens and Bath met on the final day of the 2012/13 season with Saracens looking to secure top spot in the league and Bath only playing for pride. In front of a full house at Allianz Park it was Saracens who started the game the better and opened up a 13-0 lead thanks to tries from Ashton and Billy Vunipola. With Saracens looking like running away with the game Bath gave themselves some hope going into the second half thanks to a try from Webber to make it 13-7 at the break. Any hope Bath had was short lived as Owen Farrell restored his side's 13 point lead thanks to a try under the posts. With Bath looking dead and buried they found a way back into the game once again after a brilliant individual try from Horatio Agulla made it a 6 point game with Saracens now only leading 20-14 with still time for Bath to mount a serious comeback. Bath did their best to try and force their way over again but the try never came and Owen Farrell sealed the win with a late penalty with Saracens securing a home semi-final thanks to a 23-14 win.
