Aviva Premiership: Leicester Tigers - Wasps (Round 2)
- 1177
A very entertaining second half of rugby made up for a slow first forty minutes at Welford Road. The teams traded penalty kicks in the opening minutes before Gopperth put Wasps 6-3 up. This was followed by a try for Christian Wade after a great break and intelligent kick by Gopperth. The last score of the half was a try for Leicester number 8 Lachlan McCaffrey after he put in a probing kick in behind the Wasps defence. The teams went in with a 13-8 scoreline at halftime in favour of Wasps.
Wasps built a massive lead in the second half after tries by Guy Thompson and Sam Jones, both of which were converted by Gopperth put them 27-8 up. Ed Slater dived over to hit back for the Tigers, followed by 3 Freddie Burns penalties. Suddenly Leicester were back in the game as they were only 5 points behind. However Wasps killed their chances of even a losing bonus point as Gopperth was found out of position, in the middle of a maul, but nonetheless got over for the score. He converted to leave the final score 34-22 in the visitors favour.
