Round 3 of Super Rugby Pacific returned some humdingers with most of the victories going to the home sides.
In terms of the overall standings, the Crusaders are leading the pack with a total of 13 points after their three outings, followed by the Aussie duo of the Brumbies and Reds – both on 12 points – in second and third respectively.
Scott Robertson’s charges ran away in the second half against Moana Pacifika after the latter put up a stout showing in the first stanza. Final score: 33-12.
Fiji Drua enjoyed their first victory of the campaign when they downed the Rebels 31-26:
The first of the two Australian derbies saw the Reds with a convincing victory over the Force on the latter’s home turf. The Reds ran in 4 tries to their opponents’ one.
The Brumbies pulled off a 7-point win against their Sydney rivals, the Waratahs, in a well-contested match.
In New Zealand, the Blues were very nearly on the receiving end of another last-gasp defeat. The final whistle sounded with the scores at 24-22 as a potential match-winning penalty kick from Bryn Gatland sailed wide of the posts.
The Canes sealed their second campaign victory when they hosted the Highlanders in Wellington. Final score: 21-14.
