Dan Thomas has been rewarded with a new contract at Cardiff after an impressive first season at the club.
The flanker joined the Blue & Blacks last summer and has notched up 11 appearances in a fiercely competitive back-row and scored two tries to date. He is also currently seventh in the BKT United Rugby Championship turnover charts despite sharing game-time.
Now, he has become the latest player to sign a new deal at the Arms Park as the club continue to build for 2025-26.
He said: “I’m really pleased to sign a new contract with Cardiff. I’ve enjoyed the challenge at the club, not only in terms of the URC, and the variety of teams, styles and travel, but around squad selection and the quality we have.
“I feel I have been given the freedom to show what I can bring to this team and that is thanks to the players and coaches accepting me from the off.
“This season we have shown glimpses of what we can do and I’m fully focussed and driven on helping Cardiff grow and challenge for silverware in both domestic and European rugby.”
Thomas returned to Wales following a seven year spell across the bridge, first with Gloucester and then Bristol Bears.
He will compete with the likes of Taine Basham, James Botham, Alex Mann, Gwilym Bradley and Lucas de la Rua for a spot on the flank next season.
Cardiff head coach, Matt Sherratt said: “Dan re-signing is great news for the club. He is all action on the field and has delivered some very good moments in a Cardiff shirt this season.
“He links our play well and gives us transitional moments which is a big part of wearing the Cardiff number seven jersey. We look forward to seeing him continue to do that in a really competitive back-row.”
