24 Years ago today, Jim Telfer’s speech and Matt Dawson’s dummy wins series opener

24 years ago today, Martin Johnson captained the British and Irish Lions to victory over the Springboks.

The Lions beat South Africa 25-16 in the Test opener in Cape Town.

The match was turned on its head when Matt Dawson memorably dummied four Springbok players before he scored in the corner.

Alan Tait scored another to make the game safe as the Lions headed to Durban for the second Test with a 1-0 lead.

Before the game, Jim Telfer produced the 'Everest speech' that has become incredibly popular.
