'That was a rubbish call. An absolutely dreadful call' - Hamish Watson on Fagerson's red card
- 1624
Scotland flanker Hamish Watson has hit out at referee Matthew Carley for sending Scotland prop Zander Fagerson off during their Six Nations defeat to Wales.
After claiming a first win at Twickenham in 38 years by beating England 11-6 on the opening weekend, Scotland stormed ahead with tries from Darcy Graham and Stuart Hogg on Saturday. Rees-Zammit went over before half-time and set up Liam Williams to haul Wales back into the game, and they took the lead when Wyn Jones touched down after Zander Fagerson saw red. Hogg put Scotland back in front despite their numerical disadvantage but a stunning solo effort from Rees-Zammit saw Wales follow up their win over 14-man Ireland last week with another success.

Fagerson was dismissed 13 minutes into the second period after he had made contact with Wyn Jones’ head as he cleared a ruck.
An uspet Watson mounted a staunch defence of his team-mate after the game and insisted it was not even a foul, never mind a red card offence.
While defending his teammate, Waston explained that it was also the 10 minutes before and after the break where Scotland lost the game rather than the sending off the prop.
"Zander will be fine. That was a rubbish call. An absolutely dreadful call. That’s not rugby, that call." - Watson said
"Zander is absolutely fine. We’ve already got round him. He’s a great player and a big part of everything we do with Scotland. He can hold his head high, I think.
"We lost that game in the last ten minutes of the first half and the first ten of the second. We lost that game when we had 15 on the field. Z has nothing to worry about."
Watson continued: "I haven’t heard the comms from the TV but I’ve heard from other people that the TMO said it wasn’t a red, then the ref has overruled him.
"The ref has the right to do that if he thinks that’s the right call.
"We as players strongly disagree with that call. As soon as I saw it on the TV, I was thinking, 'That’s not even a penalty’.
"There’s not much else we can say. We don’t think it’s a red, a yellow or even a penalty. But that’s the way the game is going."
