Waikato host last years defeated Premiership finalists, Tasman, in the opening round of the ITM Cup at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton.
Waikato displayed some impressive running rugby to score nine tries and beat Northland 55-35 in their final pre-season match, despite trailing 21-0 after the opening 14 minutes.
Alternatively, Tasman were defeated 31-17 by a well drilled Wellington Lions side.
Both teams will be eager to get off to a positive start in their ITM Cup campaigns, with Tasman looking to go one better than their thrilling 36-32 Premiership final defeat to Taranaki last season.
