After numerous phases, the pressure beings to tell when Elstadt enters a ruck illegally, desperate to slow the relentless Waratah attack. The home team opt for the posts and McKibben guides it over from right in front.

Waratahs opt for the corner but two phases later, the ball is spilt forward and Stormers clear their lines.

A sustained Stormer attack comes to nothing when Waratahs turnover possession inches from their line. McKibben hacks the ball down-field and Cooper provides the chase. Aplon collects but is cut down immediately by Cooper at pace. When Aplon fails to release, the Tahs earn a penalty.

The line-out provides the platform for a beautifully executed Waratah try. The ball is fed to fly-half Foley off the back of the line-out. Foley then delivers an inch perfect cross-field kick. Folau looks to collect but knocks the ball backward into the hand of Crawford who crashes over from close distance. Excellent skill from Folau who's really tested the Stormers' defence in this first quarter.

Habana makes the first real break of the game, tearing down the touch-line before chipping ahead. Tahs' cover defence is good though. Crawford secures the ball but is forced to carry over his try-line and touch down to relieve pressure. Stormers split right from the ensuing scrum before being awarded a penalty for offside in front of the posts. Pieterson then converts to points.
