The Brumbies take a 19-7 lead over the Melbourne Rebels into halftime. The Rebels missed an early long range penalty, but did open the scoring with a try 8 minutes in to lead 7-0. The Rebels then picked up a yellow card, with the Brumbies capitalizing immediately with a score to level matters at 7 apiece. The Brumbies piled on the pressure, which saw the Rebels pick up a second yellow card around the half hour mark, allowing the Brumbies to finish the half strongly with two late tries for a 12 point advantage at the break.
