Uruguay take a 17-7 lead over Italy into halftime. Uruguay missed an early penalty, with Italy crossing for a try to open the scoring. Uruguay had another chance to get on the board, but their second penalty attempt went wide. Italy then picked up two yellow cards in quick succession to go down to 13 players, with Uruguay being awarded a penalty try to level matters at 7-7. Uruguay ran in a late second try and added a drop goal with the final play of the half for a ten point advantage at the break.
