France take a commanding 38-8 lead over Ireland into halftime. Ireland opened the scoring with a penalty 5 minutes in, but France hit back with two tries to lead 14-3 around the midpoint of the half. It went from bad to worse for Ireland, as the French were awarded a penalty try, with Ireland picking up a yellow card in the process. Despite being a player down, Ireland went over for their first try to trail 21-8. France added a penalty around the half hour mark, before finishing the half in style, running in a further two scores for an emphatic lead at the break.
