C'mon boys!!!!
Stormers open the second half scoring with a 45 metre kick at goal. Steve Walsh spots an unbound Hurricane flanker in the scrum and penalises. Very strong breeze in FMG stadium aiding Pieterson in his kicking efforts.
Whilst a relatively low-scoring half of Super 15, there's been plenty to get excited about. Barrett and Franks playing some excellent rugby. Barrett has delivered some superb kicks while Franks has been ferocious at the breakdown Stormers to play with the wind this half. Teams are back out..
First half Statistics:
Hurricanes with 54% of territory and 61% of possession. They've made 26 tackles this half in comparison to the Stormers' 50. 1 missed tackle from the home team, and three from the visitors. And finally, the Stormers have earned 38 metres from the rolling maul, whilst the Hurricanes are on zero.
Procter crosses for a timely Hurricane try late in the first half. The home team grind their way back into the Stormers' twenty-two, slowly but surely inching towards the white-wash. Stormers hold strong, but after a number of phases, a beautiful, zippy pass from Barrett releases Procter on the wing. Barrett's conversion is blocked down by the pacey Brian Habana. And with that, Steve Walsh brings an end to the half.
Thrush back on.
Hurricanes make their first real break of the game. Vito splits left off the rear of a scrum. He fends off one and slips the ball to Perenera on an arcing run. Perenera slips through a gap and bolts downfield, beating two defenders before being brought down 10 metres out. 'Canes arrive and start to build the phases, but lose the ball at the bottom of a ruck. Stormers clear their lines. Superb defensive effort.
Stormers opt for the line-out off the resulting penalty and again set the maul to great effect. But once more, the maul is collapsed illegally, this time by Franks. The penalty comes, and the referee exchanges some stern words. Stormers, delighted with the efficiency of their maul, set it again, and eventually cross through Rhodes.
After a slow start, the Stormers find some rhythm. They secure line-out ball on the Hurricanes twenty-two and initiate the rolling maul. The maul tears through 'Canes twenty-two at a ferocious pace, and has the gold defence pedalling backward. As the maul approaches the white-wash, Thrush decides to collapse it illegally and earns himself a yellow.
Steenkamp crashes into contact on half-way, but the support is poor and he's pinged for holding on the floor. Barrett steps up and guides the ball through the uprights. That's 100 points this season for the twenty-one year old.
