Ulster take a 19-10 lead over Clermont into halftime. Ulster kept the scoreboard ticking over, slotting three early penalties to lead 9-0. Ulster then ran in the game's first try to open up a 16-0 lead after 26 minutes. Clermont responded with a try to get on the board, but then picked up a yellow card, with Ulster kicking the resulting penalty. Clermont pulled three points back with the final play of the half to trail by nine points at the break.
