Bath take a 13-12 lead over the Exeter Chiefs into halftime. Bath opening the scoring with a penalty after 8 minutes and ran in the games first try shortly after to lead 10-0. Bath added a second penalty around the midpoint of the half to open up a 13 point advantage after a superb first 20 minutes. The defending champions began to find their rhythm thereafter and got on the board with a try around the half hour mark. Exeter would finish the half the stronger of the two sides, with a second try making it a one point ball game at the break.
