Franklin made his professional debut for the Falcons in 2003, after which he had three seasons with the South Western Districts and two stints with the Pumas. A hard as nails hooker with over 11 years on the South African rugby scene, highlights have included playing against the British and Irish Lions for the Royals XV in 2009, captaining the Pumas in the 2010 Currie Cup and a Super Rugby debut for the Lions in the same season. 2011 saw the front rower moving to the EP Kings and ran out in 2013 for Southern Kings in their debut Super Rugby season.
