Born and schooled in Kraaifontein in the Western Cape province of South Africa, Jacobs kicked off his professional career with the Falcons - based in Southern Johannesburg - in 2000. He was quickly roped into the Bulls for whom he played Super Rugby until 2004 when he joined the Sharks in Durban.
Jacobs made his Springbok debut in 2001 when they took on Italy in Genoa. He featured again in 2002 however, thereafter, he did not pull on the green jersey again until 2008.
He turned out for the Springboks during their historic 2009 series victory over the British & Irish Lions, putting his dazzling running skills to good effect in the first two tests.
Towards the end of his career, Jacobs was plagued by injuries and hung up his boots in 2012 with a total of 34 Springbok caps to his name.
