WATCH: England's Penalty Try That Has Split The Public
- 3399
England were awarded a penalty try after Chris Ashton was taken off the ball as he looked to put boot to ball after Henry Slade intercepted a pass and kicked through for the flying winger.
Nigel Owens awarded the penalty try and sent Gael Fickou to the sin bin for the incident.
The decision has split the viewers on twitter with some saying the penalty try should have been awarded and other disagreeing and saying it should not have been awarded.
"The crap one" by the way.

Good reffing.

Ashton had overrun it. Nigel was a bit hasty there

Commentator is wrong here. I understand the rule to be try would PROBABLY have been scored, not definitely would have been.

Having said that, I thought Ashton overran that and it shouldn’t have been a penalty try, just a yellow card penalty.
Howler by Nigel, should have looked closer at the replay

“Probably” would have scored? 🤔

Nigel likes the big moments and it is good that he makes a decision where others falter. But think he was wrong there. Wasnt clear and obvious... #ENGvFRA
