Wasps go into administration, 167 redundancies announced

Wasps have been put into administration with 167 employees now looking for new jobs.

A statement from administrators read: "Regrettably, upon appointment, the Joint Administrators were required to make 167 employees redundant, including all members of the playing squads and coaching staff.

The company that ultimately owns Wasps Rugby Club - Wasps Holdings Limited - confirmed the news on Monday while employees were informed at meetings held at the Coventry Building Society Arena and at the Henley-in-Arden training ground base.

“A small number of employees have been retained to support with the orderly wind-down of the company and the operation of the CBS Arena, which is unaffected by this administration and continues to trade as normal." the statement added.

Coventry City Football Club are set to play at the Coventry Building Society Arena but Wasps games have been cancelled.

Wasps are expected to follow Worcester Warriors in being relegated from the Premiership if they are unable to secure a new owner and pay off their debts. The RFU are set to confirm this shortly.
