Wales 33-30 Japan: 3 Best Performers
- 1981
Amanaki Mafi
Hugely powerful performance from the No. 8, who didn't seem one bit phased by strong Welsh pack. Present all over the park, Mafi showed a superb running game and with his immense strength, caused major problems for the Welsh defence, each time he got his hands on the ball. Played a major role in Lotoahea's late try, Mafi was fully deserved of his MOTM nomination.
Akihito Yamada
Highly impressive outing from the winger, who absolutely dominated his opposite number, Alex Cuthbert. A live-wire all game, Yamada was unlucky not to have several tries this afternoon with a fantastic running game. Was instrumental also in defence and provided a great read followed by sublime pace in his 60m intercept try.
Leigh Halfpenny
A glimmer of light in Welsh's poor performance against Japan. He seamlessly slotted into the wing to make way for Liam Williams, and really impressed with ball in hand, making several breaks. However, it was his kicking game that impressed most with a 100% (6/6) record from the tee, with kicks that proved to be vital in securing the narrowest of victories.
