The Stormers got the defence of their United Rugby Championship title off to a winning start with a 38-15 home victory over Connacht in round 2. The Stormers struck first with a try just four minutes in before the sides traded penalties to see the hosts up 10-3.
The Stormers then missed a shot at goal but were successful shortly after to make it 13-3. The Stormers picked up a yellow card just before halftime and Connacht capitalized with a late first half try to trail 13-8 at the break. The Stormers kept the scoreboard ticking over, slotting a further two penalties to push the lead out to 19-8 with 25 minutes remaining.
Connacht then received a red card on the hour mark to play the remainder of the match with a player short. The Stormers took advantage with two quick tries to all but wrap up the match at 31-8. Connacht went over for a try with ten minutes to play, but the Stormers crossed for the all important bonus point score with time up on the clock.
