The 14 man Barbarians recorded an emphatic 52-21 win over England in the mid-year internationals. England opened the scoring with a penalty after 16 minutes, but the Barbarians hit back immediately with a penalty try to lead 7-3, with England picking up a yellow card in the process. The Barbarians took advantage of their extra player, scoring another try to lead 14-3. England kicked a penalty after 34 minutes and shortly after went over their first try to close the gap to 14-11, with the Barbarians receiving a red card to be down a player for the remainder of the match. Despite being down a man, the Barbarians scored a late first half try to take a 19-11 lead into the halftime break. The opening twenty minutes of the second half was a sea-saw battle, with the sides alternating two tries apiece as the Barbarians led 31-21 with around the final quarter to play. The Barbarians trade mark flair was on display in the last 15 minutes, as they turned on the style, crossing for a further three tries to round out an entertaining victory.
