In a game of fine margins, the Springboks managed a narrow 19-16 victory over the British and Irish Lions in the third test to clinch the series.
Morne Steyn was the hero for South Africa as, just like in 2009, his penalty proved decisive in a 19-16 series-clinching win over the British and Irish Lions.
After Ken Owens' try and Finn Russell's conversion gave the Lions a 3-10 lead after 20 minutes and that lead could well have been increased with a promising counterattack.
The Lions took the ball through five phases gaining around 20 metres before a quick ruck and some good hands from Finn Russell freed Liam Williams up on the right-hand side of the pitch.
With Adams on his outside, Williams sprinted into space and had a 2 on 1 with Handre Pollard but instead of putting Adams away, Williams took the ball into contact with Pollard making a sharp tackle.
A phase later, Jasper Wiese got over the ball to win a turnover for the Springboks but the Lions had an advantage as the Springboks failed to roll away from an earlier ruck.
Russell set up the lineout just five metres out from the line but Tom Curry conceded the penalty and the Springboks would work their way up the pitch with Pollard converting a penalty to close to the gap to 6-10.
