URC Wrap: Leinster dominate Glasgow, Bulls edge Sharks, Roos inspires Stormers

The Bulls, Leinster and Stormers secured their place in the United Rugby Championship semi-finals along with Ulster.

Ulster beat Munster in the first quarter-final on Friday and will now head to Cape Town to face the Stormers next weekend.

The Stormers secured a 28-17 with no.8 Evan Roos scoring for the Cape-based franchise in the final match on Saturday. 


Leinster eased past the Glasgow Warriors running in 12 tries in a 76-14 victory at the RDS Arena. 


The Bulls edged the Sharks at Loftus Versveld thanks to a late drop goal from flyhalf Chris Smith to claim a 30-27 win.

A Chris Smith drop goal with time up on the clock sealed a dramatic URC quarter-final victory for the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

The Bulls flyhalf dropped into the pocket with the two sides all square at 27 points apiece and nailed the drop goal to send the Pretoria based franchise into the final four.

 
Madosh Tambwe and Bongi Mbonambi scored first-half tries with Chris Smith and Curwin Bosch scoring eight points apiece from the tee as the sides went into halftime all square at 13 points.
 
 
Marcell Coetzee and Cornal Hendricks scored early in the second half to give the Bulls a 14 point lead with the Sharks responding through Jaden Hendrikse and Sikhumbuzo Notshe.
 
 
With the clock in the red, Smith slotted the match-winning drop goal to seal the win for the hosts.

Leinster 76-14 Glasgow

Leinster responded to their Champions Cup Final defeat in emphatic fashion running in 12 tries to thrash the Glasgow Warriors 76-14.

Zander Fagerson got Glasgow off to a fine start with a score in the fourth minute but the Scottish outfit fell apart when Richie Gray was yellow-carded in the 14th minute.

Leinster scored three tries in the time that Gray was off the pitch with Dan Sheehan, Jordan Larmour, and Joe McCarthy grabbing five-pointers. Sheehan grabbed a second before halftime as Leinster led 26-7 at the break.

The tries kept on coming for the men in blue in the second half with Caelan Doris grabbing the first of second-half just three minutes in. Mike Ala'alatoa added a second a minute after Ollie Smith was yellow carded and Jamison Gibson-Park furthered Leinster led to 40 in the 53rd minute.

Garry Ringrose scored just before the hour mark with George Horne grabbing one back for Glasgow soon after. Ross Thompson's conversion would be the final mark the Scottish side would make on the scoreboard as Larmour, Ciaran Frawley, Jimmy O'Brien (2), and Luke McGrath scored to round off the win.

Stormers 28-17 Edinburgh

The Stormers cruised into the URC semi-finals with a 28-17 win over Edinburgh.

Warrick Gelant scored the Stormers' opening try as he pounced on a loose pass by Emiliano Boffelli after kick into the Edinburgh 22.

Boffelli and Manie Libbok traded penalties before Dave Cherry scored at the back of a rolling maul as Boffelli levelled the scores with a conversion. The score remained unchanged at 10 all until halftime.

Ruhan Nel rounded off an excellent Stormers' try in the 44th minute with Libbok added a conversion and penalty to give the hosts a 10 point buffer. 

Evan Ross got a bit of luck for his score as Hamish Watson knocked an offload off the deck by Libbok backwards and the back-rower pounced to score.

Henry Pyrgros scored in the 55th minute to give Edinburgh hope but the Stormers would add another three points to their tally through Libbok and held out for the win.
