Wales u20 recorded a famous 8-7 win over New Zealand u20 in the semi-finals for fifth position at the World Rugby Under 20 Championship. Wales opened the scoring with a try midway through the first half to lead 5-0. New Zealand had a chance to hit back with a penalty shortly after, but the attempt went wide. After 28 minutes there was almost an hours delay as adverse weather saw the game temporarily suspended. The sides returned however, with Wales missing a penalty just before halftime as they took a 5-0 advantage into the break. New Zealand picked up a yellow card early in the second half, but Wales were unbale to capitalize on their numerical advantage. Wales then missed two penalties, with New Zealand crossing for a try to edge in front 7-5 with a little under 10 minutes to play. Wales regained the lead with a penalty with only a minute remaining. There was to be late drama however, as New Zealand were awarded a penalty with the final play of the match, but the attempt was missed handing Wales the victory.
