Sam Jones to undergo examinations

Jones has withdrawn from the England camp after being named in the England EPS squad at the end of last week.

The Wasps back-row forward sustained an ankle injury during an England training session Tuesday morning at Brighton College, putting his potential England debut next month in doubt. 

He will undergo further examinations to diagnose the full extent of the injury and has returned to his club this afternoon for assessment.

World Rugby confirms 2023 RWC candidates

World Rugby has confirmed France, Ireland and South Africa as Rugby World Cup 2023 host candidates.

Italy formally withdrew from the process last week after the union confirmed it could not guarantee government support with its bid being linked to the Rome 2024 Olympics.

World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont said: "We are delighted by the strong level of serious interest from unions and governments, which is clearly reflected in three strong and impressive applications."

The candidate process officially opens on November 1 and the Rugby World Cup 2023 host union will be selected by the World Rugby Council in November 2017.

Jack Wilson joins Bath

Bath has announced that Otago back Jack Wilson will join Bath Rugby until the end of the season.

Wilson was at Saracens in the 2013/14 season and has also played for the Sharks and Otago Highlanders in Super Rugby.

Having made five appearances for the Highlanders in Super Rugby this year, the 26-year-old winger will arrive at the Club following the conclusion of the Mitre 10 Cup competition.

Mat Luamanu commits to Harlequins

Harlequins have announced that back-row Mat Luamanu has committed to the Club having signed a contract extension.

Joining the Club ahead of the 2015/16 season, the powerful back-row has made 18 appearances since his debut against Wasps in October 2015.

Brent Janse van Rensburg resigns as Boland Cavaliers head coach

Brent Janse van Rensburg has resigned as head coach of the Boland Cavaliers after one season in charge.

Janse van Rensburg, who was appointed by the Union in January of this year, said: “I am thankful for the opportunity afforded to me to be able to contribute to Boland Rugby and I feel the team is in a better place than it was in January this year."

President of the Boland Rugby Union, Ivan Pekeur added that Boland is already considering candidates to fill his shoes, and "Boland Rugby’s doors will always be open for Brent to assist with his knowledge and inputs in order for Boland Rugby to reach even greater heights in the seasons to come.”

Munster announce 3 new signings

Munster's latest squad additions, Rhys Marshall, Thomas du Toit and Cathal Sheridan have signed new contracts with the province.

23-year-old Marshall arrives on a three-year contract which will keep him with Munster until June 2019. 

He’ll be joined by South African prop Thomas du Toit and Irish scrum-half Cathal Sheridan, who have both signed three-month deals.

Du Toit, whose loan switch is also subject to a work permit, can play as both a tighthead and loosehead prop. Currently involved in the Currie Cup with the Sharks, the 21-year-old has played for South Africa ‘A’ and the Barbarians.

Sheridan returns to the fold in a short-term capacity. After making his debut in February 2013 against Edinburgh Rugby, he made 35 Munster appearances and now returns to the squad on a three-month contract.

Saracens sign Andrew Fenby on short-term deal

Saracens have signed back Andrew Fenby on a short-term deal with immediate effect.

The former London Irish player, who can play on the wing and full-back, has joined the Allianz Park side on a three month deal after leaving the Exiles in the summer.

Fenby, who's a qualified chartered accountant, played for Newcastle and Scarlets before joining Irish in 2013.
