In a pulsating match, Racing Metro edged Clermont by the slightest of margins 34-33 in a thrilling French Top 14 semi-final. Racing built up a 16-6 lead before Clermont scored on the stroke of halftime to trail 16-11 at the break. The second half was a frantic affair as the lead changed hands on numerous occasions as the score was locked up at 27-27 entering the final quarter of regulation time. Both sides had a long range penalty attempt to sneak a win, but each kick went wide as the teams could not be separated and extra time was required. Clermont went ahead again with two extra time penalties and held that lead until the final 2 minutes of the match. A crazy throw in from Racing straight to a Clermont player somehow ended up with Juandre Kruger intercepting and feeding the flying Juan Imhoff who sprinted in from range setting up a potential match winning conversion attempt.
