Top Super Rugby (Round 7) Stats Performers - Tackles, turnovers, running metres, defenders beaten, clean breaks

With Round 7 complete, we examine the top performers in the relevant statistical columns.

Jake Schatz of the Sunwolves topped the tackle stat for the first time with 23. The Sunwolves spent a significant portion of the game defending against a rampant Crusaders outfit which despatched them 49-14. Sam Cane (Chiefs) was second highest with 20 and Marco van Staden (Bulls) and Mike Stolberg (Sunwolves) each made 19 tackles.

Jordie Barrett (Hurricanes) continued his impressive form, making the most carries of the round with 19. Aphelele Fassi (Sharks), George Bridge (Crusaders) and Warrick Gelant (Bulls) all made 17 carries while Jack Maddocks (Waratahs) was close in third with 16.

Jordie Barrett’s carries also yielded the highest running metres of the round with 118. Blues number 8 Hoskins Sotutu’s efforts were good enough for second place with 105 and Maddocks racked up 104.

Mark Telea (Blues) once again finds himself on top of the ‘defenders beaten’ stat, this time, however, tied with Crusaders’ winger, Leicester Fainga’anuku. Both players breezed past 13 defenders. Fainga’anuku’s teammate, George Bridge managed to beat 10 and Damian McKenzie beat 8.

Marco van Staden was a stand-out performer for the Bulls in their heavy loss to the Reds, the openside flanker making 3 turnovers- the highest in the round.

Andy Muirhead (Brumbies), Leicester Fainga’anuku, Hoskins Sotutu, Braydon Ennor (Crusaders) and  George Bridge all equalled each other in terms of clean breaks with 4 apiece.

With the Coronavirus throwing the future of the 2020 tournament onto unstable ground, it is hoped that we will see Round 8 of the competition underway in the near future.
