Jake Gordon – NSW Country Eagles

The 25-year-old halfback made a huge statement with an outstanding performance tonight, sending a strong message to Wallaby coach Michael Cheika.

The Blackwattle Bay schooled scrumhalf put his hand up, controlling play with his half-back partner Mack Mason. Not only was he quick around the park, ensuring that the men from New South Wales had go forward ball, but he was always very aware of the poor Sydney Rays defence - scoring two of his three tries from sniping runs.

His third try was a gift off a quick tap which he easily dotted over. Gordon's performance will give Michael Cheika something to ponder over with him and Nick Powell putting their hands up for the third scrumhalf spot in the squad to tour South Africa and Argentina.

Tolu Latu – NSW Country Eagles

The Tongan-born hooker showed why he has earned eight caps for the Wallabies as he put in a telling performance tonight both on attack and defence.  His lineouts have come a long way since the beginning of the season despite one skew throw.

He’s first-half try was one that showed a good reading of the game as he picked the ball up from the ruck after realising that the pillar and post were quite far off. He managed to race to the try line managing to evading two defenders.

The Eagles needed to step up on defence in the second half and the hooker lead from the front making some crucial turnovers and tackles.

Shambeckler Vui – Sydney Rays

Coming off the bench and being part of the losing team, Vui did not have the greatest of opportunities, but that did not stop him from being one of the standout performers not only in his team but on the match as a whole.

A year ago the Bankstown born prop was playing for the Australian U20 and tonight he made an impression after he was brought off the bench as early as the 12th minute. 

Just before of halftime, he managed to pounce on a ball at the back of a lineout to power through a gap 20 metres out showing off his pace to score. 

Soon after that, he was back in the mix with a great run in midfield but with no support around him he had to commit to the tackle. 

Had it not been for a great tackle by Curtis Rona, Vui would’ve crossed over for a second try as managed to split the Eagles' defence and come just short of the try line.
