Top 5 Players from the Weekend
Louis Picamoles
Very destructive with ball in hand, constantly making hard yards for his side. The French No. 8 was out of the blocks fast, two rampaging runs through the England defence exposed the hosts.
Picamoles was the best player on the pitch and was the deserved man of the match, making 16 carries for a gain of 131m for his side, beating 7 defenders and successfully executing 4 offloads.
Without doubt the most effective ball carrier we saw this weekend.
Maro Itoje
Making his first start at flanker, Itoje did not look out of place for one minute. He was formidable in the air as he took apart the French lineout, winning 8 of them.
Itoje has tremendous elasticity at the breakdown, slowing down French ball while also securing 2 turnovers for his side.
The Saracens lock displayed his versatility by seamlessly slotting into the back-row.
Jonny Gray
An outstanding performance by the 22-year-old Scot, Gray put in a Scottish record of 27 tackles and is quickly becoming one of the best locks in the world.
He constantly disrupted the Irish line-out, which is a pivotal function of their game, while securing 6 of them himself for his side.
A rare missed tackle in the first half & some minor penalties offences blemished his efforts, but another outstanding performance.
Owen Farrell
The heartbeat of the England back-line, he started the game slowly but ended it as one of England's most inflential.
He drew in the French defence to release Te'o away for the game clinching score, missed one kick but remains a leader for his team.
Stuart Hogg
The player of the 2016 6 Nations picked up in 2007, where he scored two tries and was afforded plenty of space in the wide channels in the 1st half. The second a sublime dummy and turn of speed, which left the Irish defence for dead.
The Scotland flier put in a couple of huge clearing kicks under pressure and was quite comfortably the best player on the pitch.
