5. Aaron Cruden
All though he's not plying his trade in an All Blacks jersey anymore, Cruden has been outstanding in the Top 14 for Montpellier. The former Junior Rugby Player of the Year is still one of the best playmakers around and on his day can be completly unplayable.
4. Finn Russell
One of the most exciting talents in rugby right now and the Scottish 10/12 has been phenomenal in recent times. At the highest level he's performing and in a star-studded Racing 92 team, standing out.
3. Owen Farrell
A hit and miss season for England but their talisman Owen Farrell has been consistently fantastic for both Saracens and England. Strong in defence and a superb playmaker. A big 2019 awaits.
2. Beauden Barrett
One of the household names in rugby right now, last years World Rugby player of the year has had another great campaign as New Zealand retained the Rugby Championship. Has been poor off the tee but as a playmaker going forward he's superb.
1. Johnny Sexton
Recently crowned World Rugby Player of the Year for 2018 and rightly so. A great professional throughout his career, under Joe Schmidt he's managed to get even better, leading Ireland to a 6 Nations championship (including a sensational drop kick clutch vs France) and victory over the All Blacks.
