TheYellowCap previews The Stormers 2017 Super Rugby Season

With less than 24 hours to this year’s Vodacom Super Rugby getting underway we continue our season previews and next up are the DHL Stormers.

Robbie Fleck has once again changed his captains for the season and announced Siya Kolisi as the man to take the helm in Cape Town with his deputy being the super-human Eben Etzebeth.

With a bunch of new recruits Fleck and his men are again tipped to be one of South Africa’s top two by many pundits; however we are not so convinced yet…

As always the Capetonians will be right up there but can they actually get over the hurdle that has seen them so many times fail before? They do have a young energetic team that will want to raise the bar and prove many like us wrong and we are sure they can but how?

The Stormers along with the Bulls and Cheetahs will be facing the New Zealanders this year and this could make life difficult for these three teams once they get on the road.

One thing which we did not see during their pre-season warm up games is whether they have enough depth or not as Fleck played a near full strength squad at every opportunity they had and with Juan de Jongh and Leolin Zas already falling casualty on the wayside, things could get even tougher if they lose more key players early on.

Will Kolisi and Etzebeth be able to lift this Stormers side to greater heights than ever before? Only time will tell.

Let’s hear what SuperSport columnist Brenden Nel has to say via his YouTube channel.
