The unstoppable force that is Evan Roos
- 604
Consistency might as well be Evan Roos' middle name at this stage with the DHL Stormers forward once again leading the way throughout the 23/24 season.
24-year-old Roos has been one of the real breakout stars since the first season of the United Rugby Championship, winning a trio of awards as well as the championship itself in its inaugural season and his form as continued throughout URC 2 and 3.
Roos has an incredible skillset, combining pace with power, along with an incredible eye for the try-line, making him one of the most unstoppable forces in the league.
The back-rower made 16 appearance for the DHL Stormers last season. He beat 49 defenders (2nd overall) made 183 carries (3rd), 239 contact metres (3rd) and 14 turnovers (5th), as well as chipping in with 8 tries.
He's one of the most complete forwards in the championship and he has the stats to back it up with only Warrick Gelant (34) completing more offloads than Roos (18) at the Stormers.
Defensively only two players – league leader Ruben van Heerden (224) and Ben-Jason Dixon (174) made more tackles than Roos (150) at the DHL Stormers last season.
He was hugely unlucky to miss out on selection for South Africa's Rugby Championship games against Australia this month and opted to get surgery done on a longstanding shoulder problem that has been causing him difficulty for some time.
It's remarkable to think that Roos has been putting down numbers like the above while technically not being at his very best.
When he returns for the DHL Stormers in a few months fully fit and ready – he will be a scary proposition for any team to deal with.
Get well soon, Evan. We look forward to seeing you back in action soon.
