Super Rugby Team Of The Week

Week two of Super Rugby didn't exactly set the competition of fire but it also didn't disappoint as we saw the Crusaders get upset by the Chiefs and the Sharks win their first game on the road against the Highlanders.   

Here is our Super Rugby Team of the Week: 

15. Aphelele Fassi (Sharks) 

The 22-year-old flyer was incredible against the Highlanders this weekend. The fullback made 11 carries for the Sharks and ran in a total of 107 metres in the game. Fassi also used his wonderful skill to score two individual tries and got himself a try assist. 

14. Sevu Reece (Crusaders)

The flying winger couldn't be tamed in the first half game against the Chiefs but unfrotely his form couldn't inspire his team to a win. The New Zealand international scored two tries, made 11 carries with the ball in hand and lastly gained 33 metres. 

13. Joe Marchant (Blues)

The English export crossed the line for his first try of the season and in the Blues jersey, starting to combine well with TJ Faiane and the rest of the backline. The former Harlequins star scored a lovely try over the weekend and also made 100% of his tackles in his second start for the Blues. 

12. Irae Simone (Brumbies)

His midfield combination with Tevita Kuridrani continues to grow and his elusive running and solid defence make him the complete package. Simone scored a try of his own on Saturday but also had two try assists as the Brumbies beat the Rebels.  

11. Mark Telea (Blues)

The hat-trick hero for the Blues, was at his explosive best as he replaced Rieko Ioane on the left-wing. He made 132 running metres in the match, carried the ball up nine times and  beat eight defenders on his way to the try line. 

10. Curwin Bosch (Sharks)

The No. 10 controlled things for the Sharks this weekend and almost walked away with a flawless kicking recording away from home. Bosch scored 17 points, made seven carries and missed only one out of his eight attempts at goal.

9. Brad Weber (Chiefs) 

The All Black scrum half played 36 minutes in the second half and helped swing things the way of the Chiefs, who played against the Crusaders. Weber was influential as ever, setting up Sean Wainui with a classy offload to score the winning try for his team. 

8. Isi Naisarani (Rebels)

Despite another strong game from Brumbies star Pete Samu, Isi Naisarani stole the position with a showing that included a massive 15 carries, made seven tackles and also beat six defenders on attack. 

7. Pieter-Steph du Toit (Stormers) 

The World Player of the Year put in a massive shift against the Bulls this weekend. Although the game was not a humdinger the Springbok flank was huge on defence and managed to make 13 out of 14 tackles in the match. 

6. James Venter (Sharks)

The loosie had an incredible runout for the Durban side on Friday and his numbers tell an impressive tale. Venter first of all scored a lovely try for the South African side but he also carried the ball 43 metres. On defence, the No. 6 made 15 tackles and won two crucial turnovers. 

5. Mitchell Brown (Chiefs)

Helped his pack dominate at scrum time and was massive in defence for the Chiefs. Brown made all 11 of his tackles and also carried the ball up on seven occasions. 

4. Patrick Tuipulotu (Blues)

The Blues captain was everywhere on the field  in Newcastle on Saturday and he did his best in a dusty lineout. The lock made all 12 of his  tackles and also provided quite a bit at the breakdown for his team. 

3. Allan Alaalatoa (Brumbies)

The brumbies front row really dominated the Rebels this weekend and lots of that work came from Alaalatoa. The No. 3 worked incredibly hard on attack as he set up Folau Fainga'a try and carried the ball up six times. On defence his effort was just as good as he completed 16 tackles. 

2. Folau Fainga'a (Brumbies)

The Australian international kept up his impressive try scoring ways this weekend. The hooker also put in a solid display at lineout time and made seven tackles on defence. 

1. Joe Moody (Crusaders) 

The All Black tackled his heart out against a brutal Chiefs pack and was ever so solid at scrum time. Moody made 12 tackles in total and even managed to win a turnover for the Crusaders.
