- 1366
The Melbourne Rebels got their Super Rugby campaign off to the perfect start as they cruised to a 45-19 home win over the Queensland Reds. Despite picking up a red card in the 9th minute, it was the Reds who crossed for the opening try and a 7-0 lead. The Reds were then reduced to 13 players with a yellow card and the Rebels scored soon after to level the scores. The 13 man Reds responded with their second try for a 14-7 lead, but the pressure began to tell as the Rebels finished the first half strongly with three scores in the final 10 minutes to take a 26-14 lead into the break. The Rebels started the second half as they finished the first, running in three early tries to all but wrap up the match at 45-14 heading into the final quarter. The Reds would run in the final score which would serve as little consolation.
