The end of Round 3 saw France continue their unexpected dominance of the competition, sitting on top of the log, enjoying a comfortable 4 point cushion. England are in second place with Ireland,Wales, Scotland and Italy holding 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th positions respectively.
We now take a look at the players who stood out in the statistics.
England’s Sam Underhill did yeoman work at a blustery Twickenham on Sunday evening, putting in a total of 24 tackles against the Irish. Paul Willemse (France) did his usual damage to the opposition, completing 19 tackles, the same number as Luca Bigi in the Italian jersey. French flanker Francois Cros came in third with a tackle count of 18.
Wales’ Nick Tompkins took on the French defence with gusto on Saturday night, managing 21 carries while teammate Dan Biggar and Ireland’s CJ Stander tied second with 18 each. Jayden Hayward (Italy) had the third highest number of carries with 16.
Stuart Hogg took the Italian defence in his stride on the weekend, racking up an impressive 136m in Scotland’s 17-0 victory. French fullback Anthony Bouthier was also in good running form, covering a total of 122m. Nick Tompkins gained 105m for Wales with his 21 carries.
Scottish fly-half Adam Hastings was in the faces of the Italians this round, managing to beat 10 defenders. Nick Tompkins sped past 9 and Jake Polledri beat 7.
Polledri continues to impress, completing the highest number of turnovers this weekend with 4. Teammates Braam Steyn and Giovanni Licata, Jamie Ritchie, Hamish Watson and Grant Gilchrist (Sotland), Maro Itoje (England) and Virimi Vakatawa (France) all pulled off 2 turnovers each.
Round 4 sees Ireland with an opportunity to redeem their loss to the English when they take on Italy, Scotland host the French and England will face a hungry Welsh team.
