Six Nations Countdown: Day 3 - Six Nations Hat-Tricks
- 2474
It takes a player being on top of his game to enjoy the rare honour of dotting down three times, especially in the international arena.
The Six Nations has been treated with some memorable hat-tricks over the years. With just 3 days to go before the commencement of the 2023 edition of the Championship, we take a look at some of the best Six Nations hat-tricks.
Will Greenwood (2001)
Tall, strong and fast, Greenwood was the full package in the midfield and hit some fantastic form in 2001 when England took on the Welsh in Cardiff:
Mark Cueto (2005)
After a poor start to their 2005 campaign, England turned the screws on Italy in Round 4 at Twickenham with a 39-7 victory. The English attack out wide was particularly lethal that day as winger Mark Cueto crossed the whitewash on three occasions.
Jamie Noon (2005)
2005 was a big year for English centre Jamie Noon who made his international debut during the campaign. As touched on above, the 2005 Six Nations Championship was one which England would rather forget, but for Noon, the final match thereof will always be something special as he earned a hat-trick in the coveted white jersey.
Vincent Clerc (2008)
French flair was too much to handle for Ireland on 9 February 2008 when the Stade de France heaved with victory as Les Bleus romped to a 26-21 victory. Of particular significance was the sheer pace of French winger Vincent Clerc, who had a hat-trick next to his name after just 21 minutes.
Brian O’Driscoll (2000 & 2002)
Given the skill-set of Brian O’Driscoll, it is hardly surprising that he notched up not just one hat-trick in his Six Nations career, but two.
The first one came in 2000 against the French at Stade de France:
The second came in 2002 against Scotland at Lansdowne Road:
