Relief for Blues star George Moala after he escapes conviction for vicious assault

Rugby player George Moala let out an audible sigh of relief as he left court this afternoon, having been discharged without conviction for his part in a vicious assault.

The 24-year-old Blues player was found guilty back in January of assaulting Clifford Matoka in a late-night bar brawl.

Today George Moala was discharged without conviction and ordered to pay $2500 in emotional damages to his victim.

George Moala and his brother, Siua, had originally been accused of assaulting Mr Matoka and another man, Damian Leota, on Auckland's K Road in 2012.

Siua was found not guilty of three charges.
