Reds' playmaker emerges as surprise Toulon target

Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal is already looking to rebuild to Toulon following an already terrible season for his side.

Toulon has failed to make the Champions Cup playoffs for the first time having lost the likes of Semi Radradra, Chris Ashton, Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe and others at the end of the 2017/18 season.

The likes of Julian Savea and Liam Messam have failed to inspire the side so far this season with Toulon flirting with relegation from the Top 14 with just 4 wins from 11 games and just 4 points shy of the drop.

However, Toulon has already secured the services of Eben Etzebeth and Nehe Milner-Skudder and are in advance talks with Christopher-Eric Tolofua Baptiste Serin.

Boudjellal has also revealed to Midi Olympique that his side are also in talks to sign a surprise youngster with the paper speculating that Reds playmaker and Queensland Country captain Duncan Paia'aua is the man Boudjellal is referring to.

The 23-year-old is comfortable at centre and flyhalf and has been in the mix for a Wallabies test debut having already featured for the side against the Barbarians last year.

Inside centre has been a bit of troubling position for Toulon this season following Ma'a Nonu's departure with wingers Julian Savea, Josua Tuisova, Francois Trin-Duc, Mathieu Bastareaud and Anthony Belleau featuring in the position so far this season with none of the players really making the jersey their own. 

Paia'aua is a talented baller, who is unlikely to get a look into the Wallabies squad for the World Cup with Bernard Foley, Kurtley Beale, Matt Toomua and even Quade Cooper vying for the inside centre and flyhalf positions.
