Saracens got the defence of their Premiership Title off to the perfect start with a hard-fought 32-21 away win over the Newcastle Falcons. Newcastle went ahead with two early penalties, but Saracens kicked one of their own and followed that up with the opening try to lead 10-6. Newcastle kicked a third penalty, but Saracens ran in their second try on the stroke of halftime for a 17-9 lead at the break. Newcastle struck first in the second half with their opening try, but Saracens bounced back soon after to restore their eight-point advantage at 22-14. Saracens picked up two yellow cards in quick succession to temporarily be reduced to 13 players. The Falcons capitalized immediately, with their second try making it just a one-point ball game with around 10 minutes remaining. However, Saracens would finish the game strongly, crossing for their fourth try and slotting a penalty with the final play of the match to seal the victory.
