Northampton issue update on Furbank after brutal collision

Northampton Saints have issued an update on the condition of George Furbank after the fullback was involved in a horrific aerial collision with Gloucester’s Santiago Carreras during Saints’ 31-26 victory over the Cherry & Whites.

The pair collided with each other while trying to field a high ball and were both simultaneously knocked out.

Once revived, they both left the pitch on foot, however, to observe concussion testing protocols.

Saints Tweeted:

“George is up and about upstairs. He’s got a really good looking cut on his nose, but he’s ok, thankfully.”

Furbank himself issued the following Tweet:

An update on Carreras is still forthcoming.

Gloucester have been struggling immensely this campaign, after having posted only one victory from seven outings. Head coach George Skivington said after the match:

“Obviously it’s frustrating and as professionals we will analyse what went wrong with our set-piece.

“We got more flustered than I would have liked as we made too many errors. We were a little better in getting into attacking positions than recently but then our set piece didn’t function.

“We are aware of the discussions concerning relegation, or not, in our league but we are not talking about that and are just concentrating on improving and hopefully picking up some wins.”
