Nadroga and Naitasiri brace for an epic Inkk Farebrother Trophy Showdown

The upcoming Inkk Farebrother clash between Nadroga and Naitasiri this weekend carries a lot of historical significance with a promising showdown at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday.

Nadroga, as the defending champions and current holders, will have the honor of hosting the match, making it a momentous occasion not just for the team but for the vanua of Nadroga.

Fiji Rugby’s Operations Supervisor, Jiko Matawalu, who once captained Nadroga, emphasized the unique intensity that arises when two powerhouse teams like Nadroga and Naitasiri meet.

Matawalu led the Stallions from 2004 to 2011, a period during which they secured victory over Naitasiri on home turf, six times.

“Regarding the Farebrother Trophy, Nadroga boasts the most wins, and their determination to retain it within their borders is unwavering,” said Matawalu.

He added that Nadroga would spare no effort and leave no stone unturned to keep the prestigious trophy.

In the 82-year history of the Ink Farebrother Challenge, there have been instances where Naitasiri triumphed at Lawaqa Park.

Thus the “Men-in-black,” harbor hopes of repeating history. Their most recent victory over Nadroga was last season when they secured a nail-biting 29-27 win on their home ground at Ratu Cakobau Park.

Matawalu said, “With Naitasiri standing up to the challenge, their determination and hunger for the Ink Fareborther Trophy will be showcased on Saturday.”

He urged the public and the people of both provinces to come out in large numbers to support their respective teams, emphasizing that this is not just another match but one of the most significant fixtures in the 2023 season.

Both Nadroga and Naitasiri are also in contention for the Skipper Cup trophy, having finished among the top four teams, alongside Suva and Nadi.

The Inkk Farebrother Trophy clash between Naitasiri and Nadroga will kick off at 3pm at Lawaqa in Sigatoka.
