Manawatu came out firing in the opening minutes of the game as they scored 17 consecutive points after 21 minutes. However, Otere Black's penalty in the 21st minute was the last time Manawatu troubled the scorers. The Magpies went on to score 45 unanswered points to secure an emphatic win in this derby. Pasqualle Dunn opened the scoring for the home side in the 23rd minute and his try was followed by tries from Kianu Kereru-Symes and Tom Parsons as the two sides went into the break tied 17 points apiece. Mark Braidwood scored inside the first ten minutes of the second half before Jamie-Jerry Taulagi, Jonah Lowe and Michael Buckley rounded off the scoring as Hawke's Bay move up to second place on the Championship table.
