Cardiff Blues are delighted to announce Matthew Rees has signed a new deal to remain at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
The 60-cap hooker, who joined the region in 2013, made 18 appearances during the 2015-16 season.
He remains an integral member of the squad, bringing a wealth of experience from the Test arena where he also won three caps for the British & Irish Lions in 2009, and has now been rewarded for his fine form with a new contract.
Head coach Danny Wilson said: “I’m delighted Matthew will remain on board with Cardiff Blues. During the 2015-16 season he has played some good rugby and proved he has plenty left in the tank.
“Matthew will not only bring needed experience and leadership but will have a mentoring and coaching role to our younger hookers."
He had no second thoughts on putting pen to paper on fresh terms and is determined to help the region climb back into the PRO12 top six and the European Champions Cup.
Rees, 35, said: “It is great to re-sign with Cardiff Blues. After an enjoyable season it’s a pleasure to be asked to stay and I feel I still have a lot to offer both on and off the field."
Since joining Wales’ Capital Region from the Scarlets, Rees has racked up 52 appearances.
