Cornish Pirates have confirmed that Back-rower Matt Bolwell and hooker Sam Matavesi have each signed a further one-year contract with the club.
Bolwell, a former Truro College student who started his rugby at Wadebridge Camels and later became a member of the Exeter Chiefs Academy, also represented England U17s and U18s and has in the past played for Exeter Braves in the 'A' league.
Educated at the Camborne Science & International Academy and Truro College, Matavesi is a Cornish-born Fiji international who previously played for Camborne, Plymouth Albion, and briefly for Racing Metro in Paris.
Cornish Pirates’ player-coach Alan Paver has spoken highly of both players, saying:
“Injuring his ACL early this season was frustrating. However, Sam has shown he’s a tough performer, with a bit of Sam Betty about him.
"He’s super aggressive, dynamic, good with ball in hand and, as a real competitor, is just the right type of young player to have in our environment, being hard-working and very committed to the cause.
“It is wonderful too that Sam has signed for us again, as he is such a talented player who quickly found his feet made a terrific impact."
